Alberta Education and Childcare offers the Northern Alberta Teacher Award (NATA).

The personal information collected through a NOVI survey and email submissions is for determination and verification of an applicant’s eligibility for the Northern Alberta Teacher Award (NATA) and administration of the NATA program (including selection, research, statistical analysis and program evaluations). This collection is authorized by section 4 (c) of the Protection of Privacy Act. This is the official application for NATA. No other forms will be accepted.

Note: Funds are not received until after successful completion of the return of service. This will take two or three years depending on your return of service agreement.

Submissions are accepted until Monday, January 19, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. MST. After that date and time, the application portal will be closed.

Example: I am interested in working in northern Alberta because I had never been there and it would be an exciting adventure. I spent my life in a downtown urban city and am ready to live and work in other parts of Alberta. The Northern Alberta Teacher Award provides the opportunity to work in northern Alberta and so I am submitting my application. This sounds like a life changing experience.

Example: As someone born and raised at a town in northern Alberta and with all my family there, I will positively contribute to the schools and community as both a teacher and an active community member. Currently I volunteer with a children's group since my daughters are involved, and I will continue that activity. Also, we have many ties to the community and strive to be good neighbours. Both me and my family will be a positive influence because of our love and involvement of our town.
